IPTSE Winter School 2012 in my words

         Every year Carnegie Mellon University organizes winter school in field of Internship Program in Technology Supported Education (IPTSE) . This year they organized at M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology,Bangalore. 

         Talking about the procedures, They update their website every for that.You can check this out link. Basically you need to fill up an online form and send two recommendation letters from your college. As per my experience they mostly select on the basis of your cgpa/cpi . 

        We had three tracks in which all of us are divided in teams. I was given speech track. It is not compulsory to bind to that particular track. You can choose any of the tracks after you are selected for winter school. So basically here I will try to focus on the parts which I like in this program rather than giving just an overview. So we were not provided lodging form the organizers, so we were allowed to stay anywhere so we stayed in a 2 star hotel nearby our destination. We have to go to college 9 to 6 on every working day. It is required as we have to complete our project in just 12 days !  

      Project work consist of giving fascinating ideas which you like to work upon and which are related to your track. I chose(suggested by someone!) to detect advertisements in radio streaming so that we can switch the channel rather than listening to boring ads! 

     I would not go deep in the details of project work as I have time constraints! Most amazing was stay in south part of India as it has different lifestyle, food style,cloths,etc.. I basically liked their food combinations(not just rice!) Some of them was Bisi Bele Bath,Curd RiceKesari Bath with noodles(yummy!), etc..

I also didn't like some of them which were Parotta which were like chewing gum! MSRIT celebrated cultural evening specially for us, and some of their best talents also performed there.  Kathak, western music , western dance (robot) karaoke of one of the faculty (he himself was so indulge in it that he didn't stop even if the evening was ended!)  was one of the best parts! We were also asked to perform in which some of us performed very well and at the last we also did Gagnam style !

So whole  12 days experience was enthralling. Many great minds from various IIT's NIT's were there so it was worth to be part of it ! It was also my first experience of travelling more than 32 hours in Indian railway in general class as well as sleeper with waiting list status !
